Offering Guidance

We offer guidance during the transportation planning process to help lead Prescott in a positive direction for all of our citizens.

PAT is involved in community planning and is represented on advisory committees:

  • General Plan – A General Plan is a foundation for establishing goals, purposes, zoning and land use for each jurisdiction. Every city has one.
  • Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization (CYMPO) – A metropolitan planning organization (MPO) is a federally mandated and federally funded transportation policy-making organization made up of representatives from local government and governmental transportation authorities.  Federal funding for transportation projects and programs are channeled through this planning process, and transparency through public access to participation and electronic publication of plans is required by federal law.

We have also been represented on other planning committees:

  • Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan – City Council voted the 2003 version into practice. PAT helped to update the 2009 version, but action has yet to be taken towards implementation.
  • Prescott Bicycle Advisory Committee (PBAC) and Transportation Coordination Committee (TCC) –  Both committees were disbanded,  PBAC in January 2010 and TCC in November of 2011.
  • 2050 Visioning Committee – “It’s inevitable that Prescott will grow,” Prescott E-News.com quoted former Mayor Jack Wilson as saying, “but he believes that it’s possible to control the direction of Prescott’s growth.”  This committee was formed to lead that growth in a positive direction.
  • Greenways Committee – The Greenways trails are a joint project between the City of Prescott and several non-profits, including PAT. It is listed as Open Space in our trail system.
  • Parks Master Plan Committee – The Parks and Recreation Board consists of five members appointed by the Mayor and Council. The Committee makes recommendations to the City Council and City Manager on all matters pertaining to the recreational needs of the citizens of Prescott.
